Jason Kapella, an esteemed oil painter based in Hygiene, Colorado, channels over thirty years of exploration in the American West into his vibrant canvases. From footpaths to mountain boards, bikes, and fishing rods, his journey transformed into a serious dedication to painting in 2012.
Jason's artistic roots trace back to his youth, filled with sketching and drawing, later honed through formal studies at Loveland and Boulder Atelier Academies.
Jason’s passion stretches beyond landscapes to include still life, with a particular fondness for old roses cultivating 50 varieties in his home garden. His art dances between abstract design and impressionistic realist expressionism, seamlessly blending figure, still life, and landscapes. Some of his works remain boldly abstract, while others render the subject matter with striking clarity.
Deeply inspired by historical life, Jason captures classic Utah, New Mexico, and Colorado landscapes, conveying the simplicity and beauty of bygone eras. Originally from Ashtabula, Ohio, Jason moved to Colorado in 1994 to study Business and Management Information Systems at the University of Colorado, Boulder. His work invites viewers to reconnect with simpler, more timeless existence.
